On May 4, 2013, Perry Center’s Young Leadership Council will host the 5th Annual Kentucky Derby Party.
Held for first time at Penn Social in Penn Quarter, the Young Leadership Council is celebrating 5 successful years as one of D.C.' best charity events with special guest DJ's, and a bigger, more elaborate Best Dressed Competition!

Why Derby Matters
Contributing to Perry Center, Inc. enables us to improve the lives of more than 5,000 adults and youth district wide. Continuous poverty in D.C. is reflected in the hundreds of clients that walk through our doors daily seeking food, medicine, clothing, transportation, adult education, employment services and housing support. Recently we have had to make more out of less to provide services, enhance our programs, and keep up with growing need in the community. We count on your help now more than ever to meet the demand for our services.
What we are working on in 2013:
Healthy Initiatives – The Perry Center is dedicated to fostering a healthier Northwest 1 community by helping youth and adults gain tools for more environmentally and economically sustainable living through bicycle safety education, and family bike rides as well as healthy food initiatives and an active living lifestyle.
Workforce Development – The Perry Center is actively researching and raising funds for our economic empowerment program. In this program we help individuals achieve milestones in their life such as GED certifications, job placement, computer training and financial literacy.
Truancy Reduction - In response to the District-wide crack-down on truant students, the Perry Center, Inc. was rewarded an 18 month grant by the D.C. Department of Justice to work with over 100 students from two Ward 6 elementary schools. Parents and students will undergo one-on-one case management in order to change families behaviors and encourage on-time and consistent arrival at school.
